Color Run 5k 2014

This past Saturday I got the chance to finally do a Color Run and it was SO much fun! The entire run was energetic and crazy and just plain fun. It wasn’t too competitive, but I was proud of myself for running the entire time!

and after!

Annnnnd some more pictures…

Can’t forget the cheesy jumping picture.

And my post-run lunch {stuffed acorn squash, nectarine, plum, and turkey slices} because it was pretty and delicious.

Complete Nutrition

Complete Nutrition

I was so very excited to make a trip to my favorite local nutrition store, Complete Nutrition, yesterday to stock up on my regular purchases!

(excuse my messy counter)

These include:

-S’mores V-core Vantage protein powder

-a box of cookies and crème Quest bars

-a box of PB&J Quest bars

-cherry pomegranate Prime Energy Boost

I seriously don’t know what I would do without these products (especially the Quest bars, they’re so addicting and DELICIOUS). The staff is super friendly and they always send a letter after you visit to check up and see how you like the products. Can you say excellent customer service, or what? Any-who, I totally recommend making a trip if you have one nearby it’s totally worth it.

Sorry I’ve Been Gone

Wow, so the past two weeks I’ve been so off-schedule that I don’t know what to do with myself. We took a school trip to New York which was AMAZING but it threw me off big time. Now that things have settled down (for now) I’ll try to be more consistent, but now here’s some pictures from my trip! Locations include the MET, the MOMA, skylines, and all sorts of touristy-type-things.

I enjoyed squid pasta while in Little Italy (it was hella good let me tell you..)

And then, obviously, a cannoli from Ferrara.

The new World Trade building. The memorial was so moving even though it was unfinished.

And finally, we walked half of the Brooklyn Bridge on our last day.

It’s a lot of pictures, I know, but the trip was so awesome I had to share!

Weekend Summary

I squeezed in a 4.5 mile run yesterday morning, and I’m glad I did because the weather was PERFECT. Overcast with a cool breeze and an occasional glimpse of sunlight. Absolutely wonderful. Now that it’s officially spring, the trees and flowers are budding out and it makes for a lovely morning run.

For my pre-run breakfast I had a White Chocolate Raspberry Quest Bar, a Fuji apple, and about two tablespoons of White Chocolate Wonderful Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter! (recurring theme, can you tell?) This is my go-to breakfast before a run because it’s sustainable, but not too heavy.

My protein drink to refuel from my run was about a cup of Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almondmilk, 1/3 a scoop Milk Chocolate V-Core Vantage protein powder, and a splash of  Archer Farms black coffee! If you’re used to the taste of almondmilk, I highly recommend this drink! It tasted almost exactly like an iced mocha from Starbucks, but it’s a whole heck of a lot better for you with 80 calories, ~8.5g protein, ~2.5g fat (~1g Saturated fat), ~3g carbohydrates!

I didn’t get a picture of my post-run lunch, but it was some leftover vegan zucchini alfredo, pan cooked shrimp, a Wasa crisp with 1/4 of an avocado and salt & pepper, and some blueberries!

I did manage to keep myself busy for the rest of the day running errands and such, but I definitely am more productive in the mornings.

Wednesday Post: All About Quest Bars

Until Quest Bars, I was pretty skeptical about the whole protein bar thing. From what I had heard they were chocked full of nasty ingredients, added sugar, and artificial flavors and preservatives all of which I didn’t want going into my body. Quest Bars changed everything.

(photo from Quest website)

With only natural, pronounceable ingredients and no added sugar, Quest Bars are a high quality protein bar that actually tastes fabulous, and there are literally endless ways you can prepare them. My personal favorite is to lay some foil on a baking sheet, spray it with non-stick spray, bake the Quest Bar at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes and the broil it until golden and beautiful. However, I don’t always have the time to bake them, so I just pop them on a plate sprayed with non-stick spray for 20 seconds or until they get nice and gooey. You wouldn’t think that you could bake a protein bar and anything good happen, but Quest Bars end up with a cookie-like texture with is to. die. for. There are also hundreds of Instagram accounts and websites dedicated to really cool ways to prepare Quest bars like making cinnamon rolls, wrapping them in low carb tortillas, or the classic Quest with any sort of nut butter (personal favorite).

And here’s a picture from my Instagram of a Quest Bar and PB2 poptart that I made one time! (it was gone in like .5 seconds)

I think what I love the most about the Quest community is that they are so motivational and they want everyone to be successful at no matter what level they are at. I’ll put the link to their website below  so that everyone can go buy one of the 16 amazing flavors of Quest Bars all with at least 20g of protein!

Saturday March 29, 2014

After nearly two weeks of being sedentary due to bronchitis (which was not fun coupled with my asthma), I got motivated to go for a run this morning. However, my “run” ended up being a walk/pathetic jog, but at least I got out of the house.Image

Plus, it was insanely gorgeous outside.

Not too shabby for my first time back! (I walked most of the time though)

My lunch to refuel from my run was a turkey sandwich with spinach, sunflower sprouts, hemp seeds, and spicy mustard on Ezekiel bread with a few strawberries. You can never go wrong with a turkey sandwich in my opinion.

And after a fairly active morning, I went upstairs, watched an episode of Pushing Daisies (*swoon* because Lee Pace, am I right?) and promptly napped my afternoon away, but around 5-ish my dogs were begging to enjoy the beautiful day.

She’s such a loser.
